Entering as Freshmen

The course sequence map above is the recommended course sequence for new students enrolling in Digital Design. The design program is a Fall entry program, with each course offered once per year in a tightly sequenced program to ensure professional development and a sustained career in the design field.  Students must submit a portfolio that includes work with FINE 2415 Typography and FINE 24015 Introduction to Design before moving on to the upper division courses.

Accelerated Option for Transfer Students

Transfer students may choose to apply for an accelerated program that allows students to collapse the Junior and Senior year into a single year. This can allow you to complete the program a year earlier than otherwise.

To apply, transfer students should notify a Digital Design faculty and your CAM advisor before April 1st of your Sophomore year and prior to starting your Junior year.  When you apply, you will be required to submit the following materials and information:

  • A tenured/tenured track Digital Design professor must agree to sponsor your application
  • Have a public, professional, online portfolio of your design work for all faculty to review
  • Have conducted a degree audit with your CAM advisor

Once accepted as an accelerated graduate, you will be able using the Accelerated Curriculum map below. You also have the option to substitute ARTS 4939 – Internship in a design position for FINE 4400 – Design Studio III with the approval of design faculty. Consult with faculty and your CAM advisor to decide if this is a good option for you and for details.

Note: the accelerated option is only for the Junior/Senior year, prior to that the courses are sequenced (Motion 1, 2, Interactive 1,2, Design Studio 1,2) and build off each other. There is no option to combine semesters prior to your Junior year.
