Rotation – Gimbal Lock

Finally, I found a really good explanation for what Gimbal Lock is and how it is an unavoidable by-product of Euler Angles. For the artist, it’s good to know this and learn techniques to avoid Gimbal Lock, such as parenting a camera so that you are only keyframing one rotation value per object.

If the math is confusing to you, don’t worry, they are to pretty much everyone. Quaternion representations of rotations are even more so, but they do solve the Gimbal lock problem, just don’t try to use them at home!
